After consultation however with Sir Joseph HOOKER, the Secretary of State is of opinion that Gardens may, under the management of an efficient Superintendent, become of considerable importance to the scientific world, and offer full scope for the employment of botanical learning and experience. This result can only be attained by care and attention on your part, and on your return to the Colony, you will be expected to apply yourself with somewhat greater energy than hitherto you have to your duties as Superintendent of the Government Gardens.
